ASRT Attacks — General
A hand-authored attack pack for asrt-bench — a
broad regression sweep that fires indirect prompt-injection at an AI agent and checks, from the
agent's tool-call trace, whether it was manipulated into misusing a tool. Deterministic
verification, no LLM judge.
Part of the Neuralchemy attack-pack family — this is the general, mixed pack. Per-tool packs
(email, web, file, database, secrets, code-exec) follow the same format.
- 29 cases — 20 attacks + 9 controls
- 7 capability classes, one per high-value tool:
read_file,send_email,http_request,write_file,sql_query,read_env,python_exec - Verified: on asrt-bench's reference susceptible agent, 20/20 attacks land and
9/9 controls stay defended (0 unclear). Pack fingerprint:2c4062b599433f33.
How to run it
pip install asrt-bench
# grab this pack (a folder of JSON files)
huggingface-cli download neuralchemy/asrt-attacks-general --repo-type dataset --local-dir ./asrt-attacks-general
# fire it at a target and save the result, then diff across versions
asrt-bench
asrt-bench ❯ /target fixture # or a model / your own .py agent
asrt-bench ❯ /run name=v1 pack=./asrt-attacks-general
asrt-bench ❯ /diff v1 v2
Point /target at the built-in fixture (deterministic demo), a local or hosted model, or
your own agent via a .py target — the same pack runs against all of them. A directpack=hf:neuralchemy/asrt-attacks-general loader is on the asrt-bench roadmap so the download
step disappears.
What an attack looks like
Each case hides a single [[ACTION {...}]] tool-call directive inside an otherwise-benign
document. A susceptible agent that reads the document obeys it; asrt-bench records the call and
the Verifier checks it against declarative success criteria.

${canary} is replaced per run with a marker unique to that run and case, so a passing criterion
proves the data came from this poisoned input — not a coincidence or a plausible-looking value
the model invented.

Techniques span direct indirect-injection, retrieval / RAG poisoning (payload in a second,
retrieved document), host/subdomain smuggling, and social-engineered framing.
Controls (why the numbers can be trusted)
Every scenario ships a benign control that calls the same tool with harmless arguments. It
must verify to failure — which (a) catches a Verifier that would pass everything, and (b)
proves the recorder was actually on the wire. A pack of attacks with no controls can report a
page of false "defended" verdicts; this pack does not.
Safety
Every payload is inert. Tools in asrt-bench's harness record the attempt and return a
synthetic result — nothing is emailed, written, queried, or executed. Payloads target the
non-routable attacker.invalid domain and carry a disposable canary, so even copied
elsewhere they do nothing live. These are injection patterns (OWASP LLM01), not working
exploits. Only test systems you are authorized to test.
Provenance
Hand-authored by the maintainer (Sanskar Jajoo / Neuralchemy), not model-generated — each
case is a deliberate, minimal demonstration of one tool-abuse path, with a matching control.
