Abliteration app docs
A field guide to the Abliteration desktop application and the abliteration research programme.
Written, not generated. Every sentence here was set down by a person, which is the only way a help system for a language-model application can be trusted. The application half is engineering: GGUF files, quantization, RAM budgets, a fit-check that tells you the truth about your hardware. The research half is continental philosophy meeting empirical observation.
Read by topic
The fit-check dialog, adding a model, what the "Your rig" popup tells you about what your machine can actually hold.
MoE, quantization, context and KV cache, chat templates. What every number in the app means and why the app cares about it.
Council mode, chat sessions, attachments, reasoning models, the model catalogue. The tour of what the interface actually does.
Moral installation, the refusal direction, the positions the laboratory takes and the primary sources it reads.
The idea behind the app
Abliteration is a desktop application for running local language models, and an instrument for studying what happens when their installed moral contour is loosened. These pages document both halves. Get started, look up a concept, tour a feature, or read the programme. Whichever way in you take, the docs come from the same voice as the app itself.
Trouble? See troubleshooting.
Two clients, one program
Abliteration is a single program with two native clients, Windows and macOS. Everything the docs describe applies to both, except where a page calls out a platform-specific difference by name.
64-bit x64. Silent background updates through the Microsoft Store. Minimises to the system tray on close so the model stays warm and the local bridge stays reachable.
Runs on Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3, M4) and on Intel Macs. On Apple Silicon the app uses Metal automatically, giving two to five times the throughput of the CPU path.
