Chatting with a model
Pick a model from the model selector, type in the input pill, hit Send (or Enter).
Short answer
Pick a model from the model selector, type in the input pill, hit Send (or Enter). Text streams back token by token. Cancel with Stop, copy any message with the copy icon on hover.
Detailed explanation
Sending a message. The chat has one main input at the bottom - the pill-shaped text box. Type your message, press Enter or click Send. For multi-line messages use Shift+Enter to add a line without sending.
Picking a model. The model selector above the input shows the currently active model. Click to open the SELECT MODEL card - a centered modal with your installed models as tap targets - pick to switch. Only models you’ve added (see Adding your first model) appear here. The current model handles all messages in this chat until you switch it.
Streaming. The response appears token by token, live. During generation, the Send button turns into a Stop button - a filled disc with a square glyph, ringed by a subtle spinner while the model is producing tokens. The chat auto-scrolls to keep the newest content visible. If you scroll up manually, auto-scroll releases and a small “scroll to bottom” chevron appears above the input pill; click it to jump back down and re-engage the follow.
Stopping. Click Stop to cancel. Whatever was already streamed stays in the chat - nothing is lost. You can continue the conversation from there.
Message actions. Hover over any message to reveal action buttons:
- User messages: Copy · Edit · Resend · Delete
- Assistant messages: Copy · Delete (the reasoning card, if present, has its own Copy button)
Edit lets you change your message and regenerate the response (see Editing your message). Resend re-runs the same message through the model (useful if you got a bad answer).
Attachments. The + icon on the input pill attaches files or images. See Attaching files and images for what’s supported and how context is affected.
Why it matters
The chat is where you actually work with the model. Understanding streaming, stopping, and message actions makes the difference between fighting the UI and using it naturally.
In Abliteration specifically
Copying anything triggers a brief toast confirmation from the bottom of the window (see Copy toast). Applies to any Copy action - user message, assistant message, reasoning block.
The Stop button and the send button share a single visual language - filled disc, white glyph on top - so the transition from “ready to send” to “generating, click to stop” is a single shape reveal, not a swap between two different controls. The disc darkens on hover; it does not fade.
Long user messages get proper padding - no cramping against the bubble edges. Bubbles adapt to content length; short messages stay compact.
