A tour of the interface
Three main areas: drawer on the left (your chats), main view in the middle (chat or settings), input pill at the bottom (your message).
Short answer
Three main areas: drawer on the left (your chats), main view in the middle (chat or settings), input pill at the bottom (your message). The hamburger opens/closes the drawer; the gear opens settings.
Detailed explanation
The drawer (left).
Lists all your chats grouped by date (Pinned, Today, Yesterday, older). Click a chat to open it. Hover a chat → three-dot menu for Pin, Rename, Delete. “New chat” button at the top creates a fresh empty chat. Row markers indicate special properties: R for chats that have used a reasoning model, C for Council chats, Rᶜ for both.
The main view (center).
This is where the current chat lives. User messages sit on the right as filled pills; assistant replies sit on the left as plain text with their own bubble outline. Long chats scroll - auto-scroll follows new tokens while you’re at the bottom, releases when you scroll up, and a small chevron above the input pill lets you jump back down.
Empty state (a fresh chat, or the first launch): the winged-sphinx mark, faintly tinted against the background, centered above the input. No greeting text.
The top bar.
- Hamburger (top-left) - toggle drawer open/closed
- New chat icon next to it - same as the drawer’s New Chat button
- Model selector - the currently active model, as a pill on the input; click to open the SELECT MODEL card
- Council toggle - turn Council mode on/off for this chat
The input pill (bottom).
- Text area - type your message. Enter to send, Shift+Enter for newline.
+button - attach files or images (opens a small sheet: Add Files / Choose Image)- Send button - sends the message. Becomes Stop during generation.
Settings screen.
Reached via the Settings icon in the drawer. Contains Appearance, Models, and Hardware sections, plus an About card. Back arrow returns to the chat.
Why it matters
Ten minutes with the interface and you know where everything lives. Everything is where mobile chat apps put it - drawer left, input bottom, actions on hover.
In Abliteration specifically
The winged-sphinx mark on empty state is the same figure that appears in the taskbar icon, tray, and the Store listing - it’s the app’s signature. Faded down to a background tint here so it doesn’t compete with content, sharp elsewhere.
Cards that overlay the main view - SELECT MODEL, ATTACH, chat context menu, Edit Model - invert against the app theme: white cards in dark mode, dark cards in light mode. This is deliberate - the overlay is meant to feel distinct from the surface it sits over, and inversion is the strongest way to do that without adding chrome.
Window opens at 1280×800 by default (capped at 90% of your work area if smaller), centered on your primary monitor. Freely resizable after that. The title bar uses ExtendsContentIntoTitleBar - the app draws its own top area, and the system buttons (min/max/close) render in whichever color reads against the current theme.
